Trauma & EMDR
Trauma Therapy in San Clemente, CA
Symptoms are not just problems to be solved; they are attempts of the soul to speak.
A structured approach to healing trauma.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a valuable tool used for accessing and processing traumatic material. EMDR is used in a more structured manner than traditional therapy in order to target specific traumatic memories, and bring them to the surface in a contained way while keeping you grounded in the present. This process allows the brain and body to slowly let go of their grip on the nervous system “fight or flight” activation that many people with a history of trauma experience in daily life, even in relatively non-threatening environments.
Here is a link to a video describing the rationale and use of EMDR a bit more in-depth.
EMDR may be helpful if you are experiencing:
intrusive memories or flashbacks
anxiety or a constant sense of being “on edge”
emotional overwhelm or shutdown
negative beliefs about yourself (“I’m not safe,” “I’m not enough”)
difficulty feeling present or connected
lingering effects of past experiences, even if they happened long ago
After EMDR, many people notice:
memories feel more distant or less emotionally charged
a greater sense of calm in situations that once felt triggering
more clarity and self-understanding
a shift in how they see themselves and their past
feeling more present, grounded, and connected
